Shampoo VS Conditioner

Shampoo VS Conditioner

Your hair is your best feature. But having great hair is also more than having just a good hairstyle or haircut. Taking proper care of your hair is just as important. It is necessary to make sure that your hair is clean. So for this purpose, people use shampoos and conditioners and sometimes spend quite a lot to get that perfect hair care product. Though these two go hand in hand sometimes, it can be said that there are a few differences between the two. So we start by talking about the comparisons between shampoos and conditioners. If you are confused about the uses of either of them, read on to find out. For starters, they differ in their purpose.

For starters, they differ in their purpose. The shampoo is used to clean hair. Essentially, the shampoo cleans the hair by grabbing the oil, dirt, and debris that is built up in it, and then it washes out with water. Scientifically, shampoo will raise your cuticles, meaning your hair will feel drier once you are out of the shower- at least if you fail to use conditioner. On the other hand, conditioner is used to restore moisture to dry hair when shampooing makes the hair lose sebum. Conditioners also make the hair softer, easier to brush out and style, and helps to restore shine to the hair.

Due to the differences in their purpose, the components used to manufacture shampoos also vary. Shampoos contain components that can generally be found in soaps. The components in shampoos are a lot gentler so that the sebum protecting the hair strands are not washed off, which can make the hair brittle. Conditioners consist of moisturizers that make the hair more manageable. It also contains proteins to strengthen the hair and give a natural shine to it. Besides, shampoos and conditioners are manufactured now to contain vitamins, foam boosters, nutrients essential for the hair. The vitamins found in shampoos are made to target the roots of the hair. But vitamins incorporated in conditioners often target the hair strands to strengthen it and prevent split ends and breakage. Another difference is their pH balance. Conditioners are more acidic when compared to shampoos. The reason for this is that the high pH found in conditioners help to promote the development of amino acids and keratin onto the hair strands, making them look healthier and shinier.

Lastly, there is a difference on how these two are used. All shampoos are applied onto the hair to clean it first and then washed off. Conditioners are applied on the hair only once the hair is clean. It can be allowed to stay for a few minutes before rinsing off. Depending on the quality of hair, one can also skip conditioner if the hair is already moisturized, smooth and shiny. But 2-3 times a week, a mild shampoo may be used.

So there you have it, a comparison between shampoo and conditioner. Which one do you think is the best?
