Jumanji 2 Trailer Reaction and Review

So it’s been a week since the first trailer of new “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” was released and since then the whole world has been complaining about it. This is not the only time this film faced such detest. When the film was first announced back in 2015, it also faced some controversy as it was announced pretty soon after Robin Williams passed away. He portrayed Alan Parish in the original Jumanji movie and not to mention the success of that movie. Robin Williams was a great actor as well as a great comedian. Naturally, people didn’t want to see and get upset by a remake of one of his memorable movie.

Now I personally think “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” is going to be more like a “soft reboot” of the original Joe Johnston’s action-thriller. But one thing that’s not soft is the cast members. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan are pretty big names in Hollywood. Therefore the cast for this movie is pretty strong I have to say. And we all know about the amazing chemistry between Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson. These guys work so well together and both of them are known for their comedy acts. Central Intelligence (2016) was good and Kevin and Dwayne pulled off an amazing performance there. The other cast members, Jake Black is also good and Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in “The Guardians of the Galaxy” looks really bad ass in the trailer. So as far as the cast goes, it’s pretty big, it’s gonna be great seeing all of them working together.
Now the original movie was set upon a board game called Jumanji. Alan Parish (Robin Williams) was stuck inside that game for 26 years. Though Robin Williams was a comedian, the film was dark in tone whilst dealing with serious issues. It was by no means a horror movie. But this soft reboot is set upon a video game. The characters get sucked into the game and start playing the game to get out from it. I guess they changed it for this generation as the kids these days plays video games more often than the board games. Pretty sure if video games were that common in the 1990s, the original
film would’ve been based on that too.
The original Jumanji had a sense of danger, an excitement of “survive, win or die”. But this avatar aspect won’t give that feeling. And as far as the trailer goes, the film looks a lot light toned than the original film.

The original one had comedy, but not full of it as it also had an adventure, fear, morality, a survivalist theme. But this reboot looks more to be an action-comedy movie. As the characters play as an avatar, I bet nobody will actually die if he/she gets killed, unlike the original movie. Personally, I think it would’ve been great if they just made a separate movie titled as Welcome to the Jungle with this one, But that does not necessarily mean this movie will suck.
Nonetheless, with this strong cast and with the much lighter tone, this soft reboot is going to be a good family movie for the holidays, as it’s getting released in December. Let’s just stop questioning about the film’s necessity, honoring late Robin Williams and just wait for the release. With Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillian as the cast, let’s just hope it won’t disappoint! Stay tuned for more updates on your favorite movies and TV shows.
