Dandruff and its Causes

Dandruff and its Causes

Many of us think that dandruff is the snowy white flakes that fall when we rub or shake our hair. Yes technically that is dandruff but we can’t define dandruff by just that. Dandruff is a common chronic scalp condition marked by flaking of the skin on your scalp. Dandruff isn’t contagious or serious. It is a skin disorder that affects 60% of the people of the world. So you may not be the only one embarrassed with white flakes in your hair. Basically, dandruff is the shedding of excessive amounts of dead skin flakes from the scalp. There also may be a bit of itching, but typically no redness or scabbing occurs.

Causes of Dandruff:

1. The most common reason for dandruff is dry skin or dry scalp.

2. Again oily skin is also responsible for dandruff. It is marked by red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Also known as seborrheic dermatitis, it may affect your scalp too.

3. Malassezia: Another reason for dandruffs is yeast like fungus called malassezia which lives on most adults. This fungus irritates the skin leading it to grow. As the skin cells grow some of them die and fall of as white flakes.

4. The people who are suffering from eczema and psoriasis are often known to have dandruff since both of these conditions have characteristics of dry skin.

5. Most hair care products contain chemical ingredients. Some of these chemicals are harmful for our scalp which can cause our scalp to become red, itchy and scaly. Shampooing too often or using too many styling products also may irritate our scalp and can also cause dandruff.

These are some of the causes for embarrassing white flakes on our scalp. To get rid of dandruff naturally read the article on “How to get rid of Dandruff naturally“. Don’t forget to help your friend too by sharing it.
